No TV 'Til He's 2

DaddyR saw something on TV (how ironic is that?) that stated that exposing your children to the electronic waves created by television signals can cause "re-wiring" of the child's brain which has some sort of negative impact. While this is not word-for-word from the tv segment DaddyR saw, it has inspired DaddyR (who has never been a fan of how much TV I like to watch) to declare that:

WE WILL NOT WATCH ANY TV WHILE LM IS PRESENT!

Let me just say this: I LOVE TV. When I was growing up, we were an "out-and-about" family who never got home earlier than 6 or 7 in the evening, and were out all day on the weekends. TV time was hard to come by and we really enjoyed the do-nothingness of it all.

This has translated into adulthood - there is, in my mind, nothing more relaxing than settling down and watching CSI in the dark as I fall asleep. But that has ended with the no TV proclaimation. As my waking hours reflect LM's waking hours, I find that I am not able to see many of the programs I used to love (All the CSI's, Hell's Kitchen, Numbers, Without a Trace...).
And, by chance, if I DO stay up past LM, then I risk spending the rest of the week being a zombie...

All that said, though I DO miss my TV, it has created an atmosphere where LM gets more attention, and where my dear DaddyR and I get to talk a lot more instead of my watching my shows. So, as much as I hate to admit it, the "No TV 'Til He's 2" rule has been a success.... (who would have thought!?!?"

Comments:
Holy moly! No TV?!? Talking?!? Nah, sounds like a good idea. While i don't know if I agree with the whole rewiring theory, it's probably a good idea in general for little ones not to watch too much tv since physical activity is always a better alternative. Hmmmm...Payton loves watching basketball on tv and will get pissed if you turn the station or take her away from the game. We think it's cause she focuses on the quick movements and not so much the game...although my bro did hold her while watching sports earlier in her life so maybe she's just a sports enthusiast.
