Family R at Canon Beach, Oregon

It's LM's first trip to the Oregon coast, though he has been to beaches in Hawaii already.
When we first put his feet in the water, he was fine. I think he was equating it to the beaches in Hawaii, where he's gotten used to the sand and the waves. But in Oregon, there were little sand crabs that started to nibble on his toes, which he did not like. He screeched and screamed and couldn't get out of the water fast enough. And he would not go back in. I tried carrying him into the water (and the sand crabs were nibbling at me and they did hurt a little) and even then he was skittish.
So, Daddy R and I walked down the beach, taking turns carrying LM, when, about 10 minutes later, he suddenly demanded to be put down and immediately started charging the waves, running at them screaming and yelling and laughing. We couldn't get him out. Even when he got knocked over and all wet and hit in the face by incoming waves, we could not convince him to get out of the water.
I don't know what changed his mind - whether it was watching other children in the water or what, but we had to continuously keep him from going too far into the waves by himself....
