Boo Boo Bunnies

Uncle Dan had bought a bunch of washcloths as they were on sale, and made a few of them into boo boo bunnies.
LM likes to walk around the house with the bunnies, and he semes to love the fact that he can take them by the ears and wave them around.
When I first made the bunnies, every time someone hands him one they make the bunnies "kiss him" before they hand them to him. Now, when LM picks one up for himself, he "kisses" them automatically...

Family R at Canon Beach, Oregon

It's LM's first trip to the Oregon coast, though he has been to beaches in Hawaii already.
When we first put his feet in the water, he was fine. I think he was equating it to the beaches in Hawaii, where he's gotten used to the sand and the waves. But in Oregon, there were little sand crabs that started to nibble on his toes, which he did not like. He screeched and screamed and couldn't get out of the water fast enough. And he would not go back in. I tried carrying him into the water (and the sand crabs were nibbling at me and they did hurt a little) and even then he was skittish.
So, Daddy R and I walked down the beach, taking turns carrying LM, when, about 10 minutes later, he suddenly demanded to be put down and immediately started charging the waves, running at them screaming and yelling and laughing. We couldn't get him out. Even when he got knocked over and all wet and hit in the face by incoming waves, we could not convince him to get out of the water.
I don't know what changed his mind - whether it was watching other children in the water or what, but we had to continuously keep him from going too far into the waves by himself....

Potty Training, Part 1

We got it a few days ago, put it all together, and introduced it to LM.
Since then, it has become is favorite toy - all he wants to do with it is put things on it and push it around.
So far, in the potty training contest, it's LM: 1, us: 0.

Sign of the Times

Not only that, but he's a multi-tasker. He seems to be handling more than one line at a time!!!

No TV 'Til He's 2
DaddyR saw something on TV (how ironic is that?) that stated that exposing your children to the electronic waves created by television signals can cause "re-wiring" of the child's brain which has some sort of negative impact. While this is not word-for-word from the tv segment DaddyR saw, it has inspired DaddyR (who has never been a fan of how much TV I like to watch) to declare that:
WE WILL NOT WATCH ANY TV WHILE LM IS PRESENT!
Let me just say this: I LOVE TV. When I was growing up, we were an "out-and-about" family who never got home earlier than 6 or 7 in the evening, and were out all day on the weekends. TV time was hard to come by and we really enjoyed the do-nothingness of it all.
This has translated into adulthood - there is, in my mind, nothing more relaxing than settling down and watching CSI in the dark as I fall asleep. But that has ended with the no TV proclaimation. As my waking hours reflect LM's waking hours, I find that I am not able to see many of the programs I used to love (All the CSI's, Hell's Kitchen, Numbers, Without a Trace...).
And, by chance, if I DO stay up past LM, then I risk spending the rest of the week being a zombie...
All that said, though I DO miss my TV, it has created an atmosphere where LM gets more attention, and where my dear DaddyR and I get to talk a lot more instead of my watching my shows. So, as much as I hate to admit it, the "No TV 'Til He's 2" rule has been a success.... (who would have thought!?!?"

Don't Bother Me, I'm Driving

Okay - now I've seen it all. At our local supermarket, they've got these grocery carts what have little cars on the front for kids to sit in and pretend they're driving. This was LM's first time being the driver, and I daresay he enjoyed it. He sat in the drivers' seat for a good 20 minutes and only wanted out when we started to stay in one place for too long. Not bad.
PS: Like a true "only child," notice that he's decided to control BOTH wheels?

I Can't Believe They Asked Us...
(Hey Dr. Cara - I'd love to hear your take on this one!!!)
Let's start this out by my clarifying that I love the Kindercare (KC) that LM attends. I love his teachers, the payments are high but nothing exorbitant, and most importantly, LM enjoys his time there. But I must say, they SCREWED up.
So, last Thursday, DaddyR picks LM up from KC and the director of the center pulls DaddyR aside to ask if it was possible not to give LM any more boobie-milk BM while he was at the center. (Yes, LM is STILL nursing...). She then compounds the issue by asking if it would be okay if they gave LM cow's milk instead.
So, what's the problem, you ask?
Well, there are a few:

(Yes, LM is STILL nursing...). She then compounds the issue by asking if it would be okay if they gave LM cow's milk instead.
So, what's the problem, you ask?
Well, there are a few:
- LM spends 10 hours a day at day care (6:30p to 4:30p), and eats most of his meals at day care. Both DaddyR and I agree that it would be best if he did have some BM throughout the day as it's something we both feel is important. Cutting it out of such a large part of his day seems to be wrong. It seems surprising to me, that a child care professional would request a child STOP drinking BM.
- DaddyR is a vegan++ -- not only does he not eat ANYTHING that has come from an animal, but he doesn't eat processed sugar, wheat, or anything that's not organic - so the cow's milk thing didn't go over very well at all. (On top of that, there's no way they'd give him ORGANIC anything...)
- The reason the director gave for her request was that it's the company policy that if a teacher gives a child another child's BM, they are fired, no questions asked. Even if it was an accident - LM left his milk on the table and another kid picked it up and drank it - the teacher would be gone. (I'm sorry, but why am I paying big bucks ($196 WEEKLY) if the teacher can't keep an eye on my child?)
So anyhow, DaddyR was really mad about this whole issue - he's now wanting to pull LM from his beloved day care. We've worked it out (sort of) with the day care but now the director is on DaddyR's S-list.
*Sigh*

Our Little Da Vinci

So, here's LM's 4th of July art project, and DaddyR could not be any prouder. He was so impressed that he put it up on the wall immediately (Note: the WALL, not the refrigerator. I guess the wall holds more of a permanent status than the fridge door..). DaddyR examined the art and described how wonderful it was that the blue stars formed a swirlly design and the white stars are sort of intermingled, while the red stars are on the fringe of the project, there but barely visible.
I think daddyR was reading a little to far into the picture -- I think the best part of the whole project is the fact that LM came home with minimal glue in his hair.

First Hair Cut

Well, we've done it! We've finally cut LM's hair! It was getting a little "wild" and it has started to get really warm here in Portland, OR so it was just time to get a trim.
We went all out and just buzzed it all off - we set DaddyR's hair clipper to the 1/2" setting and just went to town. I think we cut off about 1 1/2" to 2" of length... and with that all his luscious locks.
He looks much cooler now. And much more like a little boy instead of a baby. And he looks like a little rascal as well...
